Arise - Lent 2016

The week of February 1st will begin Season 4 of our Arise small faith sharing prayer groups. It is entitled New Heart, New Spirit. I would like to invite all of the parishioners in our parish of St. John the Baptist to join. The groups will run for 6 weeks. If you can't make all of them, don't worry. Just go to the ones that you are able to make. The groups meet Monday through Friday, either in the morning or at night. Pick a day and time that is convenient for you. The faith sharing sessions take place during the season of Lent. In Season 2, the focus was on "conversion" the change of heart to which we are called by Baptism. In Season 4, we will explore together the themes of forgiveness and reconciliation. We are all exposed to temptation and we do fall into sin. We make up the church which is holy, yet that Church includes sinners, and as sinnners we need to arise renewed.

Lent is a great time for celebrating the sacrament of penance. In our small groups it enables us to deepen our faith, develop a closer relationship with Christ, grow in our community and enable us to reach out in service to others. I want you all to know that it is NOT a bible study group.

Please think and pray on it this week. If you have any questions please call the office and ask for Deacon Fred (ext. 17)or Barbara Johnston (ext. 13). You can also sign up next weekend at any of the masses.

The psalm that marks the beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday is Psalm 51. It expresses the longing for newness that all of us have felt:

"A clean heart create for me, God; renew in me a steadfast spirit"Type your paragraph here.
